Help support kids like William
Last year, when William was just seven months old, a sudden viral infection caused his liver to fail. It was completely unexpected, as he was born healthy and had never had any medical issues.
He was rushed to Westmead Children’s Hospital needing an urgent transplant. To save his life, doctors performed a rare and highly specialized split-liver transplant. William is actually the youngest baby in the world, and only the 11th person ever, to have this specific procedure.
The donor liver is currently doing all the heavy lifting, which allows William's own liver to rest and regrow in the background. The incredible long-term goal is that once his own liver fully regenerates, the donor liver can be removed and he can live a completely normal life.
William still has a long way to go. Because he currently has no immune system, he is very limited in what he can do and his family has to be incredibly careful. Being able to call the House a home has been a life-saver for William and his family.
