I'm no cyclist. I'm a mum of two.

When my daughter Elsie was airlifted two hours from home after suffering severe seizures, I climbed aboard with nothing but my phone and the clothes I was wearing.

Elsie suffers from seizures that have twice required doctors to place her in a medically induced coma. 

Far from home and with no questions asked RMHC stepped in and offered us a family room to stay in, a private bathroom to shower, a laundry to wash our clothes, a care pack with toothpaste and toothbrush, hair tie, comb, deodorant - all the essentially that make you feel human again! 

Whilst what we experienced was a small sample of what RMHC truly offer, we are exceptionally grateful organisations like RMHC exist. 

The offer of a shower or even just a space to go to for a cup of tea is incredibly powerful and allows a safe space for parents and families to breathe, regroup and be strong for the ones we love. 

Thankfully, Elsie recovered. Many families aren't so lucky.

That's why I'm taking part in The Big Spin, riding for up to 12 hours to help Ronald McDonald House keep families close when they need each other most.

A Personal Update

Thursday 20th Aug
Only a few days after signing up to this challenge and telling our story about Elsie Rose, she had another seizure. 2 years and 1 day after her last seizure event. 

This one hit us hard. 

My husband and I were just starting to think she had grown out of these seizure events when, on the way home from a family funeral last week, she had a seizure in her car seat. 

We were 3.5 hours from home, no family around and not really even sure where we were to start with. We found a motel for my husband and eldest daughter and took it day by day getting Elsie and Addie what they needed and figuring everything out on the fly. 

This event has made me appreciate the enormity of what RMHC provide for the whole family unit. 

When RMHC step in, our focus can be on the health of our little ones, not on finding accommodation, a supermarket or a local target for clothes & toys. 

This is where I step out of my comfort zone and ask for help. I initially had a goal of raising enough to cover almost 20 nights at RMHC.

Now, after the last 2 weeks, I need to do more. 

I'm challenging myself to raise $10K. That's an insane amount of money and will fund over 60 nights for families at RMHC!!!
