In memory of the smiley Tommy

When a child is seriously ill or injured, the whole family is affected. Parents often need to leave their homes, jobs, and support networks so their child can receive life-saving treatment far from home. It’s a time filled with stress, uncertainty, and enormous emotional and financial pressure.

That’s why I’m taking part in The Big Spin for Ronald McDonald House Charities Greater Western Sydney.

This cause is especially close to my heart. I’m riding in memory of our beautiful son, Tommy, who was born with hypoplastic left heart syndrome. Tommy spent his life in the Paediatric Intensive Care Unit, surrounded by love and family, and bravely fought every day for five precious months. He passed away in our arms, deeply loved and never alone.

This October, Tommy would have turned five. To honour his heavenly birthday, I’m doing something I love—spinning!—while raising funds to support other families with seriously ill children.

I’ll be riding a spin bike with my team for up to 12 hours to raise funds that help keep families close to their child in hospital. Your support will provide a home-away-from-home near the hospital, daily meals, emotional care, and more. From the moment of diagnosis and for as long as it takes, your generosity helps keep families together when they need it most.
